SelCtlDB V2


Provides version 2 of the Select Control Database together with very basic documentation.


The download file contains the following items:

The 05May2006 version of the database includes fixes to behavior of a small number of forms, the inclusion of a demonstration data set, and a revision of the database security system.


WinZip or similar archiving software to extract components of downloaded zip file

Microsoft Access 2000 or higher installed on each client computer

At least one computer with Microsoft Access 2000 or higher with the MS-Access linked table manager installed


Setup of the V2 database requires:

  1. Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file in an appropriate shared network folder/directory.
  2. Place a copy of the client database on a client computer
  3. Create shortcuts that correctly reference:
    1. client copy of MS-Access executable
    2. shared copy of server database
    3. shared copy of workgroup database used to define account privileges for database users
  4. Correct the client database’s specification of server database location using the MS-Access linked table manager
    1. start client database
    2. ignore error windows displayed by Access - these result from location specified for server database being incorrect on the the installation computer - these are expected on first start-up
      1. Microsoft Visual Basic window will display Could not find file... error. Click End button
      2. Action Failed window will indicate that AutoExec macro failed. Click halt button
    3. use the window/unhide command to display the selctldb_v1_client window
    4. select the tools/database utilities/linked table manager command
    5. using the linked table manager relink all tables to the server database in it’s current location
  5. Close the client database
  6. Reopen the client database to verify correct operation
  7. Confirm that VisualBasic is set to make use of both DAO and ADO object libraries. See readme file included with download for directions
